Thinking of Moving to Mérida, México? Or Visiting?
Some thoughts on this colonial Mexican city
I spent a week in Mérida, Mexico this winter and I got a good taste of the good and the bad while being down here. I thought I’d share in case you’re planning to come down here.
Definitely Worth the Visit
Mérida as a city and the Yucatán as a whole are worth your visit, no matter what. It’s a region that’s relatively flat, with year-round warm coastal waters, and full of interesting culture and wildlife.
You can visit plenty of remarkable sites in the region such as:
- Cenotes — sinkholes filled with crystal clear water
- Mayan Ruins — Chichen Itza is the most famous but there are others
- Haciendas — beautiful Mexican ranches
- El Centro — The city center, with parks, plazas and churches
- La Playa — Only a one hour bus ride from Progreso, a sleepy beach town
The weather is in the mid 70s/80s (or high 20s if you’re European) most of the winter months, so it’s an ideal time to visit between November and April.
