What You Need to Know When Visiting New York City
A guide to the “Big Apple” for those not used to big cities
New York City is the largest city by population in the US. It’s got tons of tall buildings, world class expensive restaurants, and one of the best subway systems you can use.
That said, it’s also a city full of people that are going to be total jerks to you because they’re tired of all the tourists clogging up the street. So here’s some advice for how to survive in NYC, as someone who lived around it while growing up.
Also people call it “New York”, “NYC” or “the City.”
1. Keep Moving
People are constantly rushing to be somewhere in New York. The speed at which a person who lives in the city by themselves walks across the sidewalk is borderline powerwalking.
That being said, taking a moment to do a selfie or take a photo means you’re probably going to get run over. So don’t stop walking unless you get the heck out of people’s way.
2. Know Where You’re Going
Part of keeping moving is that you need to know where you’re going. That means asking people “how do I take the subway to Grand Central” labels you as a total tourist. And it also stops your momentum
