Why the Future Belongs to Software/IT Folks
But Low Code and No Code? And AI Coding? Nah I don’t think so.
My Background
I went into school to study physics, mostly because I wanted to study engineering but went to a school (Georgetown) that didn’t offer any sort of engineering majors. It did offer a computer science major, but after taking an introductory class, I was pretty put off the subject. I took the CS101 course and audited the CS102 course (I basically turned in all the projects and sat for the final). I also took a computational physics class and didn’t get much of anything out of it.
It came down to the fact that, at least in my opinion, teaching software development is really different from teaching computer science.
Wanting something outside of a career in physics/ academia, I turned to technology consulting, thanks to a fellow physics student who’d already graduated. When I started in technology consulting, I found a huge variety of players at different level of technical skillset. People in the same role (consultant) could be computer science majors, lawyers, or just a dopey physics major like myself. I’d spent more time hand-writing things out in school than typing away on the computer, but the computer now became my best bud. We went through a lot together that first year.
